GRANT MAKING

The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation invests in Education Programs, Youth Development Programs, and Community Programs that provide direct services to economically disadvantaged Bay Area communities.

Specifically, the Irene S. Scully Family Foundation is committed to funding organizations working toward systemic social change in communities located in San Francisco, Alameda, and West Contra Costa Counties. Although we fund organizations throughout the Bay Area, we prioritize requests from organizations working within these regions.

EDUCATION

The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation believes that an exceptional, well-rounded education should be available to all students. Our grants primarily support public elementary and secondary schools (K-12), as well as select private institutions, which serve economically disadvantaged student populations. We also support parent groups, policy makers, and organizations that work to broaden educational opportunities for low-income students and that aim to make system-wide improvements to under-resourced schools.

The educational programs we support strengthen and enhance academics, arts, and cultural instruction, as well as the quality of teaching within schools, in order to meet the holistic needs of every student. Programs often include: language arts and literacy, math and science, visual and performing arts, technology, cultural enrichment, sports, field trips, tutoring and mentoring, college preparation, career guidance, campus safety, as well as ongoing professional development for teachers and staff.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

We support youth development programs that strengthen the lives of economically disadvantaged youth by giving them opportunities to cultivate self-esteem, leadership abilities, as well as creative and practical life skills, all within in a safe and nurturing environment. The foundation invests in programs that provide enrichment opportunities for children to learn, to explore, and to develop a solid foundation for a successful adulthood.

Programs often include: mentoring and counseling, non-violence prevention, youth advocacy, homework assistance and tutoring, leadership workshops, visual and performing arts, sports and recreation, community service, college and career guidance.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation supports outstanding Community Programs that inspire positive change in their communities and provide services, resources, and opportunities for low-income families and individuals.

Programs often include: family healthcare, parenting and life skills classes, adult education and literacy, employment guidance and financial planning, mental health counseling, substance abuse counseling, child abuse prevention, and community leadership development.

INTERNATIONAL GRANTS

The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation supports international organizations working in countries plagued by poverty, malnutrition, and limited educational resources. In particular, we have commitments to programs in Haiti, Malawi, and Panama. The Foundation also provides funds for disaster relief efforts worldwide.

Please note, however, that we do not accept any unsolicited grant requests for international programs. We respectfully ask that organizations comply with this decision, as we will not respond to any inquiries.
